What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. It lets the site remember something between one page and the next, such as what is in your cart. Some cookies are essential to the site working at all. Others are not, and those are the ones you get a choice about.
Essential cookies
These cannot be turned off, because without them the shop does not function. They are set by WordPress and WooCommerce, the software the shop runs on.
| Cookie | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
| woocommerce_cart_hash | Records that your cart has changed, so the page updates | Session |
| woocommerce_items_in_cart | Records that the cart is not empty | Session |
| wp_woocommerce_session_* | Holds a unique code for your cart so we can find it again | 2 days |
| wordpress_logged_in_* | Keeps you signed in, only if you create an account | Session, or 14 days if you tick “remember me” |
| slv_cookie_consent | Remembers the choice you made in the cookie banner, so we stop asking | 12 months |
Analytics cookies
These tell us which pages are read and which are ignored, in aggregate. They are set only if you accept them in the cookie banner. If you decline, they are not set and the site works exactly the same.
| Cookie | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes one visitor from another, without identifying you | 13 months |
| _ga_* | Keeps the state of a visit for the same purpose | 13 months |
We do not set advertising or retargeting cookies. We do not run behavioural advertising, we do not embed social network tracking pixels, and we do not share cookie data with advertising networks. If that changes we will update this page and ask you again.
Changing your mind
Use the cookie settings link in the footer to change your choice at any time. You can also clear cookies from your browser: in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge this is under Settings, then Privacy. Clearing them will empty your cart and sign you out, because the essential cookies go too.
Most browsers also offer a “Do Not Track” setting. There is no agreed standard for how a site should respond to it. Since we do not track you across other websites in any case, our behaviour is the same whether you send the signal or not.
Cookies set by others
When you pay, our payment processor may set its own cookies on its own checkout page for fraud prevention. Those are governed by its privacy policy, not ours, and are strictly necessary to processing the payment.
